At its 30th IPFA/PEI International Workshop in Aarhus, Denmark the annual IPFA Award was presented by Stuart Chesneau, IPFA President. The 2024 IPFA Award was presented to Dr Jeh-Han Omarjee, Manager: Microbiological Sciences and Quality Active Raw Materials at the National Bioproducts Institute (NBI). In its 2023 General Assembly meeting, IPFA welcomed two new member organisations: Centro Nazionale Sangue (CNS) from Italy Creative Testing Solutions (CTS) from USA With CNS as member, IPFA extends plasma collection representation in Europe with a country that has established a highly evolved system for contract manufacturing of publicly collected plasma. The European Commission’s invitation to IPFA to comment on its proposal for a new Regulation on Substances of Human Origin (SoHOs) reflects many of IPFA recommendations. IPFA is particularly appreciative that plasma for fractionation is now included within the definitions and obligations of SoHOs, resulting in its recognition as part of the human body and World Blood Donor Day – 14 June 2022

Our two-day symposium was well attended with close to 200 persons from 30 different countries, and gave a great opportunity to meet, learn and network after the long pandemic time. In its General Assembly meeting in November, the Executive Board of IPFA has nominated Mr Gerry Gogarty, Plasma Programme Director, as new board member for NHSBT. NHSBT is currently starting up its plasma collection after the UK authorities lifted the ban on plasma to enable its use for fractionation into immunoglobulin products. During the annual meeting of the General Assembly, the International Plasma and Fractionation Association (IPFA) appointed Dr. Leni von Bonsdorff as its new Executive Director, succeeding outgoing Executive Director Dr. Paul Strengers.
